A nursing home in Liverpool has been fined after an 81-year-old resident was dropped from a sling. The woman suffered injuries from the fall, and died the next day.

A nursing home has been fined £18,000 after an 81-year-old woman was dropped to the ground from a faulty bed sling.

Frances Shannon suffered a broken shoulder and back injuries when she fell 3ft (91cm) at the Christopher Grange Nursing Home in Liverpool.

She died in Royal Liverpool University Hospital the following day.

The Catholic Blind Institute (CBI), which runs the home, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to one charge under health and safety laws.

It was also ordered to pay £13,876 towards the cost of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecution, in addition to the fine.

After thirty years of business, a nursing home in Northern Michigan has suddenly closed its doors. The closure has left local residents in shock.

ELK RAPIDS — A Northern Michigan nursing home has shut it’s doors after 30 years in business.

Art and Mary Watt, the owners of Northwood Village on US-31 in Elk Rapids, were tight lipped about the reason for the sudden closure. The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Township Officials, and residents were shocked to hear the news.

Chamber President, Barb Mullaly says, “It has taken everybody by surprise. In a small town things like this usually rumbles through.”

Northwood Village has gone through several owners over the years, but the Watt’s say they’ve owned it for the past eight years. Elderly residents who are currently receiving care at the facility, packed their belongings Friday, and will now have to find new places to live.
